Home Service: Sunday 21 March 2021 ~ Renewal and Growth

Welcome to this time of shared worship. Our thoughts are turning to the spring season today. The season of new life and hope, renewal and growth. In all of creation we see signs of new life around us. The birth of animals, blossoming trees, plant growth and new shoots appearing. Have you ever thought about our spiritual seasons in life?

Let’s begin with a prayer.
Prayer:
Our Lord, creator of the seasons, as we begin to see new life springing from the once frozen earth, from the once dead trees, we ask that your life-giving Spirit flows through us, reviving our once frozen weary hearts and souls. May we grow new shoots and roots, that are deeply planted in you. Fill us with your life-giving water. Amen

Song: ‘Seasons Change’ by United Pursuit.

Though the music changes

And the songs we sing
We still lift our praises to our loving God and King
Though the music changes
And the songs we sing
We still lift our praises to our loving God and King
Though the seasons change
Your love remains
Your love remains
Lord, You’ve been faithful to plant the seeds
And You will be faithful to always send Your rain
Lord, You’ve been faithful to plant the seeds
And You will be faithful to always send Your rain…
You are faithful…
Though the seasons change
Your love remains
Your love remains (x4)
When we were far apart
You came running with open arms
When we were far apart
You came running with open arms
When we were far apart
You came running with open arms

Reading: Psalm 63 v1-8

O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name. My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast, and my mouth praises you with joyful lips when I think of you on my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

In this season of new life, we are aware of the power and energy of life pushing through, in buds, flowers animals and birds. It
also reminds us of the joy of life and happiness and Hope that the newness brings. The presence of God and the power of the Holy Spirit flowing in and through us. The Holy spirit falling on us like life giving rain. Spring is the time for new life. Winter is over and the ground is no longer hard and frozen. Within this season we celebrate Easter and the resurrection of Christ, which brings new life to all in an eternal context. Life springing up from frozen seemingly dead ground shows us that there is always hope. Hope for something more, new and fresh, something else to come. In fact, all through winter it has been there, just waiting.
Waiting for the right time to spring forth. Even if we feel we are experiencing winter at the moment with all that we have had to face over this past year or so spring will come, it must wait for the right time. The eternal life that we are offered through Jesus Christ which is not just for the future when we are on earth no more but is about life in all its fullness in the here and now on earth. It is there just waiting for us to take it. It is our choice whether to accept or not.

Song: Your love flows like a river

Your love flows like a river
Flows like a fountain into the sea
Your love washes me over
Filling my spirit, making me clean
As I worship You, come fill me with Your love
Flow over me
As I lift Your name for all the world to see
Flow over me
As I bless You, Lord with all that’s in my heart
Jesus, my King
Oh eternal One, my sacrificial Lamb
Flow over me
Your touch taking me over
Leading me gently into Your arms
Your touch drawing me closer
Healing my spirit, restoring my soul
Flow over me, river flow over me
River flow over me, flow over me
Jesus, wash over me, Jesus wash over me
Jesus wash over me, flow over me
Fill me with Your love
Spirit, fill me with Your love
Fill me with Your love, flow over me

Song: I am a new creation

I am a new creation,
No more in condemnation,
Here in the grace of God I stand.
My heart is overflowing,
My love just keeps on growing,
Here in the grace of God I stand.
And I will praise You, Lord,
Yes, I will praise You, Lord,
And I will sing of all that You have done.
A joy that knows no limit,
A lightness in my Spirit
Here in the grace of God I stand.
And I will praise You, Lord,
Yes I will praise You, Lord,
And I will sing of all that You have done.
A joy that knows no limit,
A lightness in my Spirit
Here in the grace of God I stand.

Prayer
As we see new life increase all around us in the natural world, may we be inspired and challenged this spring season to revitalise the parts of us that need a boost of new life. May we allow your Spirit to have freedom within us to give us new life. May we be patient as you grow new shoots and buds within us. Help us to grow and flourish in your name. Amen
