Light Prayer
Today’s another day Lord, Yesterday is behind us, Tomorrow is yet to come, Still us Lord in the here and now, Take our hand Lord and lead us gently through the day, Walking alongside us or carrying us along the way, Be ever present as we worship you with our whole being, spirit, heart and mind. May our candle flame keep ever burning for you with a cheerful glowing light. Amen
Song by Bruce Springsteen of “Born in the USA “fame https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0qAYq1GVec
Well now, this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Every day (every day), Gonna let my little light shine
Well Jesus gave me light, I’m gonna let it shine
Every day (every day) I’m gonna let my little light shine
Well this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Every day (every day) Gonna let my little light shine
(Monday), Gave me the gift of love
(Tuesday), Peace came from above
(Wednesday), Told me to have more faith

(Thursday), Gave me a little more grace

(Friday), Told me to watch and pray

(Saturday), Told me what to say
(Sunday), Gave me the power divine
This little light of mine
Well this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Every day (every day)Gonna let my little light shine
American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen has spoken about his Catholic upbringing. Speaking to Kirsty Young on the BBC’s Desert Island Discs in 2015, Springsteen revealed that all of his earliest memories revolved around the Church. Springsteen said: “It’s always the church, the church, the church.” The ‘Born in the USA’ singer was raised in New Jersey by his Catholic parents who he described in an interview as possessing “endless optimism” because of their faith. In his recently published memoir, ‘Born to Run’, Springsteen wrote about the strict discipline he received at a Catholic school and how it disenchanted him from his faith for many years. He wrote that it wasn’t until years later when he “came to ruefully and bemusedly understand that once you’re a Catholic you’re always a Catholic.” “I don’t participate in my religion, but I know somewhere – deep inside – I’m still on the team,” he added. There are many songs in Bruce’s stage set that bear influences from his Catholic faith, and talk about Jesus, it is a shame that his faith has waned in latter years. I was thinking how many folk wonder about whom he is singing and go on to ponder questions of faith. Once you have made that commitment to Jesus his light will shine in you and through you always. He will never leave you. The light may only feel like a flicker sometimes, but it will never go out totally.

Jesus said in John 8 v 12 I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.“I am the light of the world,” is rooted in Jesus’ relationship with His Father. Jesus speaks from God and for God and as God. John Piper writes ,that the light of Christ, “is the brightness of God shining on the retina of the human soul, Awesome! “Jesus consistently focused on linking Himself to his Father. God profoundly states, “I am.” Light is part of who He is. Each day, the sun rises to warm, illuminate, and provide growth on earth. The moon and stars light the night. We reach for the light-switch when we enter a dark room, and we depend on our accumulation of knowledge to shed light on our lives. Light permeates into every crevice of our lives, whether visible, tangible or metaphorical. Light is required for any vegetation to grow, and the light clarifies the human spirit.Christ was present at the creation of the world. The Author of Light has the authority to illuminate His creation in its truest form.Jesus is the Light of the world, our world, and in the world. Like God is omnipresent, so Jesus is Light. Through Him and His sacrificial death on the cross, we are exposed to the light and he died for our sins (darkness).A boat needs navigational lights to avoid running into the shore, or into other vessels at night. Light prevents aimless drifting. Captains follow flashing channel markers and lighthouses at night. Now, GPS coordinates steer ships, but the Captain and crew still need to know how to navigate by the stars, markers and lights in case of an electrical malfunction. A lack of preparation could be deadly.Just as ships follow lights to ensure safe passage, so we rely on the Light. Jesus’s death broke through the darkness, lighting the way for us. God’s Word, through the enlightening of the Holy Spirit, helps us understand and remember when we need His wisdom to steer us. Prayer, which serves dually as lifeboat and lighthouse throughout our everyday lives is an open line of communication between us and him.

Song: ‘Shine,Jesus Shine’ by Graham Kendrick
Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine.
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze.
Set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow.
Flood the nations with grace and mercy.
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light
Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine…
As we gaze on Your kingly brightness
So our faces display Your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell Your story
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine…

Lord please shine your light on our paths, Illuminating the way ahead, the way we should go. We thank you for your Holy Spirit the light that floods and fills us. We ask you to give us boldness to shine our light for you out into the darkness of the world.Walk with us on the way ahead.Thank you, Lord, for walking with us in these uncertain times. We bring before you all those that are struggling with their health and are frightened to leave home………..

We bring before you those for whom the future looks bleak with the prospects of unemployment………….
We bring before you those in positions of authority over us that they may have wisdom and clarity to lead……….
We bring ourselves to you Lord in the knowledge that you know what is best for us even when we think we know best! We trust in your unfailing love.Thank you, Lord Jesus, our forever friend. Amen
Song ‘My Lighthouse’ by Rend Collective
In my wrestling and in my doubts
In my failures You won’t walk out
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea
In the silence, You won’t let go
In the questions, Your truth will hold
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
Shining in the darkness. I will follow You
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
I will trust the promise
You will carry me safe to shore
Safe to shore
I won’t fear what tomorrow brings
With each morning I’ll rise and sing
My God’s love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
Shining in the darkness,
I will follow You
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
I will trust the promise
You will carry me safe to shore
Fire before us, You’re the brightest
You will lead us through the storms
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
Shining in the darkness, I will follow You
My lighthouse, my lighthouse
I will trust the promise You will carry me safe to shore.
The Light of the World (1851–1853) is an allegorical painting by the English Pre-Raphaelite artist William Holman Hunt(1827–1910) representing the figure of Jesus preparing to knock on an overgrown and long-unopened door, illustrating Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me”. According to Hunt: “I painted the picture with what I thought, unworthy though I was, to be by Divine command, and not simply as a good Subject.”The door in the painting has no handle, and can therefore be opened only from the inside, representing “the obstinately shut mind”.Hunt, 50 years after painting it, felt he had to explain the symbolism. In The Passion version of Revelation 3:20, Jesus said “Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.”Jesus knocking on the door points us to the process of an ancient Jewish wedding invitation. In the days of Jesus, a bridegroom and his father would come to the door of the bride-to-be carrying the betrothal cup of wine and the bride-price. Standing outside, they would knock. If she fully opened the door, she was saying, “Yes, I will be your bride.” Jesus and his Father, in the same way, are knocking on the doors of our hearts, inviting us to be the bride of Christ.
Song: ‘Seek ye first’- instrumental version played by David Im and Dong-Hyeon Kim
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God
And His righteousness
And all these things shall be added unto you
Allelu Alleluia
Ask and it shall be given unto you
Seek and ye shall find
Knock and it shall be opened unto you
Allelu Alleluia
The love of the Lord Jesus draw you to himself;the power of the Lord Jesus strengthen you in his service;the joy of the Lord Jesus fill your hearts;and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,be among you and remain with you always. Amen.
