~ Compiled by Louise Ratcliffe ~ Calling to include or exclude.

Prayer:
Thank you for this day. And a time set apart for you. A time to come close to you, to listen and learn and give you the worship and praise of our hearts. Come close; fill us, speak to us and teach us through our readings, prayers, singing and the words that Pastor Pete will bring to us in his sermon. Change us, fill us and mould us to reflect you to all those around us. Amen

Poem: ‘Entrance’ from ‘Watching for the Kingfisher’ by Ann Lewin
Pause at the threshold.
Of the sacred space,
Bow low.
Prepare for a fresh
Encounter
With the Holy One.

Song:

We have come into His house
And gathered in His name to worship Him
We have come into His house
And gathered in His name to worship Him
We have come into His house
And gathered in His name
to worship Christ the Lord.
Worship Him, Christ, the Lord.
So forget about yourself
And concentrate on Him and worship Him
So forget about yourself
And concentrate on Him and worship Him
So forget about yourself
And concentrate on Him
and worship Christ the Lord.
Worship Him, Christ, the Lord.
He is all my righteousness,
I stand complete in Him and worship Him,
He is all my righteousness,
I stand complete in Him and worship Him,
He is all my righteousness,
I stand complete in Him
and worship Christ the Lord.
Worship Him, Christ, the Lord.
Let us lift up holy hands
And magnify His name and worship Him
Let us lift up holy hands
And magnify His name and worship Him
Let us lift up holy hands
And magnify His name
and worship Christ the Lord.
Worship Him, Christ, the Lord.

Scripture: Psalm 67
May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us— so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples raise you, God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you. The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.
When we read this Psalm, it reminds us that when we are blessed by God in our lives it is not only for ourselves, but so that we can be an instrument of God’s blessing to others. We need to give it away abundantly and freely just as it is given to us. God calls each of us to be salt and light for him in our own unique situation.

Song:

Bless the Lord Oh my soul,
Oh my soul.
Worship His Holy name.
Sing like never before,
Oh my soul.
I’ll worship Your Holy name
The sun comes up,
It’s a new day dawning.
It’s time to sing Your song again.
Whatever may pass,
And whatever lies before me,
Let me be singing
When the evening comes.
Bless the Lord oh my soul…….
You’re rich in love
And You’re slow to anger.
Your name is great
And Your heart is kind.
For all Your goodness
I will keep on singing.
Ten thousand reasons
For my heart to find.
Bless the Lord oh my soul…
And on that day
When my strength is failing
The end draws near
And my time has come,
Still my soul will
Sing Your praise unending.
Ten thousand years
And then forevermore.
Bless the Lord oh my soul…

I am a new creation
No more in condemnation
Here in the grace of God I stand
My heart is overflowing
My love just keeps on growing
Here in the grace of God I stand
And I will praise you Lord
Yes I will praise you Lord
And I will sing of all
That you have done
A joy that knows no limit
A likeness in my spirit
Here in the grace of God I stand

Prayerful guided silence
Our minds are often so full of words and what is even worse is that our hearts are often clogged up with thoughts and ideas as well which does not leave much room for meeting with God in simplicity and stillness and quiet. We are going to take time and space to pray quietly ourselves but guided with some thoughts and prompts.
So firstly, let us take a moment to notice how many good things surround us. How much we take for granted. How much our lives have been blessed this last week with good people and conversation either in person, via Zoom, Skype etc. Be still and pause with our Lord. We pray now for some of the people and places in the news, things we have read in the paper, seen on TV. The things on our heart that concern us.
Be still and pause with our Lord. We pray now for the wider church, for the big issues that seem to be topical at the moment gender, race to name but a couple of issues.
We pray for our own church in this coming season as we celebrate the last year in ministry with our Pastor Pete and our journey together and as we prepare for the future ministry and mission of this church. We ask for guidance and grace for your church. Be still and pause with our Lord. Between us all here we know many folks who are struggling today with illness, crises, big decisions and major changes in their life many brought on by the pandemic we have been through. God’s care and love is even greater than ours but let us show our own love and concern for them as we pray, naming our own people in quiet trust before our God. Be still and pause with our Lord.
Each of us has things on our mind, maybe things that we dare not share with our closest friends. Our heavenly father understands us totally and wants only the very
best outcome for us. Let us pray with honesty in our hearts. Be still and pause with our Lord. Lord hear the prayers of your people this morning. We ask you to take each and every one of these prayers and answer them in your own time and way. Give us expectant and trustful hearts. For Jesus’ sake. Amen

Song:

O Lord, give me an undivided heart
To follow You
O Lord, give me an undiminished love
To see what You see, to do what You do
O Lord, give me an undivided heart
O Lord, give me an unrelenting mind
To seek Your face
O Lord, give me an undefeated faith
To see victory in all that I do
To worship in spirit and truth
To see less of me, and much more of You
O Lord, give me an undivided heart
O Lord, give me an undivided heart

Reading: Genesis 12: 1- 10 The Call of Abram
The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s
household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will
bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. Abram travelled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him. From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and
pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD. Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev. Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.

Sermon:

As we listen to this last song a question to ponder is “Are we prepared to follow Jesus anywhere? Whatever the cost?” God’s calling on each and every one of us is unique, but he has a role for each and every one of us no one is left out.

Song:

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I Who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Here I am Lord, is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne My people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them, they turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them
Whom shall I send?
Here I am Lord, is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?
Here I am Lord, is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

Blessing
God’s love surround you, God’s Spirit guide you, God’s whisper cheer you, God’s peace calm you, God’s shield protect you, God’s wisdom arm you, wherever God may lead you.
